For quite a few years Carol Dweck's work has been featured in countless books I've read and mentioned in many podcasts I've listed to. Every time I'd hear about her work I'd make a note to get her book, and add it to my endless list of intended reads. (Does anyone else have 10 half read books on their nightstand at all times?)
In my community, numerous Little Free Library boxes are available on every block (thank you darling neighbors!) When I popped my head in one recently, there was a brand new copy of Dr. Dweck's book front and center. I took this as a gentle nudge from the Universe to finally read it. Now that I have, I can't believe it took me so long!
I wish for everyone to read this book! Even if you have been fortunate to move through the world with a solid growth mindset, learning about the difference between growth and fixed mindsets and how we cultivate a growth mindset for ourselves and others makes this book worth a read. If you are a parent, teacher, mentor, coach, therapist, manager or in any type of leadership position, this book is especially for you!
What really struck me about Dr. Dweck's research is how much it informs and illuminates why so many people become stuck with negative beliefs about themselves, which is a primary area we seek to heal in EMDR therapy.
The book is a page turner, as it's so relatable and she uses a lot of real world examples, even maybe some people you recognize or have admired.
